Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by SGC. Hall of Famer, in a seldom-encountered Rookie Card depiction. The makers of Bond Bread produced some enduringly popular, black-and-white trading cards during 1947. In so doing, the company inspired a measure of confusion that endures to this day. The offered card hails from the 1947 W571/D305 "Homogenized" Bond Bread issue, a 48-card effort that featured baseball players – including this magnificent Jackie Robinson portrayal – and a quartet of boxers. (Bond Bread, of course, is also responsible for the treasured 13-card set from the same season that's devoted entirely to the young Brooklyn Dodger.) Additionally, a number of similarly designed, square-cornered cards surfaced years ago; their origins are suspect, as the "real" Bond Bread cards, as seen here, are equipped with the beveled, rounded corners that enabled smooth insertion into bread-loaf packages. This moderately circulated tribute to Jackie by the prominent baking company retains its full measure of eye appeal (a faint crease at the top edge notwithstanding). Its surfaces and "non-corners" acknowledge traces of past handling. The resolution in its subject's portrait likeness is faithful and crisp, and its blank back carries no meaningful blemishes. An enticing collectible, boasting favorable display attributes.
