A versatile gridiron standout (not to mention WWII vet and minor-league baseball player), John "Red" Cochran was a cornerback, running back, punter and punt returner. He then went on to a nearly 5-decade career as an NFL coach and scout, primarily with the Green Bay Packers—including during the Lombardi dynasty years. A 2004 memorial tribute on the Packers website had this to say about Cochran's legacy: "Reflecting last week upon the 82-year-old Wake Forest alumnus and his unswerving loyalty to the Packers, [Director of College Scouting] John Dorsey exhibited a fond smile and said, 'I think the best example of that—God rest his soul—was when Red woke up that morning (the morning of September 5 when he passed away unexpectedly in his Green Bay hospital room following hip surgery). I was told he actually put his green and gold Packer clothes on and went over to therapy...He actually had a Packer outfit on when he left us."

Presented here is Cochran's 14K-gold 1947 championship charm and 6-point diamond mounted atop a modern 10K-gold ring band with related shank designs. (Naturally, the charm's underside protrusion means the ring cannot be sized or worn.) EX/MT with slight fading to Cochran's name. An accompanying 1998 purchase LOA reads, "This item was obtained directly from the 'John Cochran' family by a major collector." The Cardinals won the '47 NFL Championship 28-21 over the Eagles at Comiskey Park.
