Presented is a 1949 place card inscribed “Mickey Mantle” for the Commerce (Oklahoma) High School Junior-Senior Banquet, as well as two program booklets. The 1½ x 3-inch white folded “table tent” place card is printed in gold ink with the image of a covered wagon with a cloud and a cactus at the left, and the name “Mickey Mantle” inscribed in gold ink at the lower right. The Mickey Mantle place card is accompanied by two copies of the 3½ x 4-inch white paper booklets with a front cover illustration printed in gold of a covered wagon below a cloud with a cactus in the background, with the headline “Memories” printed in old West style font in gold across the top and the caption “The 49ers” at the bottom center. The 16 interior pages of each booklet are printed in black, with four blank pages headlined “Autographs” and five blank pages headlined “Memories” at the back of the booklet. The first interior page has the legend, printed in black “Memories Junior – Senior Banquet Commerce High School May 13, 1949 High School Gymnasium” and the year “1949” in black gothic type at the lower right. Mantle is listed as “Mantle, Mickey” on the page listing all the Seniors. Both booklets are in good condition, brown with age on the edges. Mantle attended Commerce High from the fall of 1945 through the spring of 1949 and was already playing semi-pro baseball and would sign a contract with the New York Yankees the day after his graduation.
