< p class=" MsoNormal" style=" text-indent: .5in;"> 1949 was a busy year for President Harry S. Truman. Between managing the rebuilding of Europe while containing the spread of Communism abroad, President Truman still found time to sign this letter, addressed to Reverend James P. Johnston of St. Louis, Missouri, and dated to April 26, 1949. The letter, on official White House letterhead, thanks “Father Jimmy” as President Truman so colloquially refers, for a letter the Reverend clipped and sent to the President. Truman goes on to thank the Reverend for his attempts at pulling “…those Dutch Republicans” into the Democratic party fold. Truman closes the letter by thanking the Reverend for his last letter and how much he specifically enjoyed the last paragraph. Truman signed the typed letter and inscribed “The ‘Bull Walrus’ was in a day or two ago-‘whispering’ as usual” in black ink. The signature and inscription are bold and clear, and the typed letter contains elements of early toning on the edges and early elements of cornering. The typed letter signed by President Harry Truman comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA13828) for the signature.
