Graded 50 VG/EX 4 by SGC. Hall of Famer, in his Rookie Card appearance. This is the condition-sensitive "First Card" in its set. Here is the debut collectible of an esteemed Yankees hurler, released just prior to his two-year hitch in the Army: Ford would not return to baseball (or cardboard) until 1953. Whitey's 9-1 record, accomplished during his first season in 1950, merited the "Number 1 card" position of honor in Bowman's 1951 offering. That circumstance of placement also ensured a dearth of quality examples for modern collectors seeking to fill sets.
