JULY 19TH AUCTION

When Bobby Thomson shocked the baseball world and the Brooklyn Dodgers with his “Shot Heard Round the World,” you know how long the New York Giants had to celebrate? One night. The World Series started the next day. The Giants had overcome a 12.5 game deficit in the standings, and forced a three game playoff with the cross town Dodgers. With such a grand lead so late in the season, it is no wonder the Dodgers had World Series press pins manufactured and ready to go to start the series. Well, don’t count your chickens before they hatch! This phantom pin (so called because it wasn’t used) reveals an old time Sportswriter hat, with the press card in the ribbon, with “Dodgers” scripted and “1951 World Series” below. The back features a threaded post design. The writers needed the pins to gain access to the stadium and press box. The pin is in glorious condition with only light age on the enamel. A true relic which is extremely rare and desirable.
