In 1951, Topps Chewing Gum Co. of Brooklyn, New York entered the baseball card market with two series of playing-card style cards; Blue Backs and Red Backs. This box holds 120 high grade unopened packs for a total of 240 cards (remember the base set contained only fifty-two players). The outside box presents at the EX/MT level due to storage, while the interior box grades slightly lower due to a detached perforated top lid. Factory-fresh cards inside doubtless reflect Mint or Gem Mint condition. Key items in this sought-after issue include the two variations of Tommy Holmes and Gus Zernial and such notable Hall of Fame subjects as Yogi Berra, Bob Feller, Ralph Kiner, Phil Rizzuto, Warren Spahn, Duke Snider and Early Wynn, as well as the rookie card of Hall of Famer Monte Irvin. This is an extremely desirable box of unopened product which most likely originated from the Philadelphia warehouse find a few decades ago.
