Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Among more than 525 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just three "Black Back" examples have been awarded this stellar tier (none graded higher). Gil Hodges was one of his era's foremost fan favorites, and he compiled 370 home runs during a highly successful career spent mostly with the Brooklyn (and Los Angeles) Dodgers. This horizontally aligned, classic depiction of Hodges, from its issue's scarcer first series, features a superb illustration of its subject against a lustrous, salmon-colored background. Its "brand-new" appearance is derived from the harmony of exceptionally strong, vivid hues, with perfect registration and bright, uninterrupted original gloss. The card's black-inked reverse side is the ideal complement to its front, and bears no signs of aging. In sum, the surfaces, color, image focus, and corners all project immaculate character.
