The 1953 World Series once again pitted the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. In Game 1, Dodgers hurler Carl Erskine was roughed up by the Bronx Bombers. However, due to his limited role Erskine was able to come back again in Game 3, where he dominated the Yankees lineup, striking out a then World Series record 14 batters. This 15” x 17.25 inch original pencil artwork was done on illustration board by long-time Boston Herald sports cartoonist Vic Johnson, who was likely working freelance during the 1953 Series for a company covering the games. Tremendous recap of the Game 3, told in words and images by the great sports cartoonist Vic Johnson. Excellent condition.
