Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among more than 3,000 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just eleven examples have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. Whenever the topic of "Baseball's Greatest Hitter" comes up in conversation, the name of Ted Williams is always at the top of the list. A glance at the slugger's statistics will quickly affirm this rating: a .344 average, 521 home runs and over 1,800 RBI. Williams compiled more than 2,000 walks while striking out just 709 times! Although these lifetime statistics are undeniably fantastic, most people forget that Williams lost nearly five years from the prime of his career to World War II and the Korean War (probably costing him 200 home runs and 750 RBI). The 1954 season marked Williams' first full campaign after his return from Korea. Without missing a beat, he hit .345 and led the League in slugging. Topps, which had omitted the future Hall of Famer from its previous sets, honored America's hero by placing him on the first and last cards in the company's 1954 issue. This card exhibits bright colors, and each of the four corners are well formed. Here's a condition-sensitive example picturing "Teddy Ballgame," in pleasing Near Mint to Mint condition.
