During the mid-to-late 1950’s Braves third baseman Eddie Mathews joined with Hank Aaron to give Milwaukee the most powerful 3-4 combo in the game. Twice the big third baseman led the National League in homers: 47 in 1953 and 46 in 1959. By the time Mathews wrapped up his Hall of Fame career the record books had him at 512 home runs making him only the seventh player to gain membership to the exclusive 500 Home Run Club.
This offered bat was manufactured for Mathews' during the 1955-1957 seasons. The Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat displays moderate use and is un-cracked. There are several ball marks and stitch impressions that can be seen on the barrel and the tape on the handle has been removed. The model number” S2” is stamped into the knob end. This bat dates from the early part of Eddie Mathews Hall of Fame career and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B05600) who note that this bat was made for Mathews during the referenced labeling period, but the use by Mathews cannot be confirmed.
