Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Hall of Famer. The great Sandy Koufax, of course, was destined to become an icon, and a symbol of pitching excellence for the full decade following the production of this sought-after collectible. But it's fortunate that he was granted a card at all in 1955: he didn't yet have any professional statistics to cite on the back! Nevertheless, this young man from Brooklyn was fittingly and presciently honored - by the home-town gum company, incidentally - as an aspiring hurler for the home-town Dodgers. Topps' first-year nod to Koufax' status takes the form of a portrait image notable for its rich, lovingly applied hues, placed within the 1955 issue's beautifully conceived graphic environment. Light natural corner wear and centering that favors the bottom are technical details reported strictly for accuracy in acknowledging the piece's grade, and they threaten no impingement upon the pleasing quality of this cherished Koufax gum card.
