Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer, in his Rookie Card appearance. Among nearly 8,600 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, barely one-half of one percent have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. As collectors are all too aware, the 1955 Topps set is haunted by imprecise manufacturing in the form of poor centering, as well as such printing defects as surface specks and weakness in color. The offered card, featuring Brooklyn's 19-year-old future star, who would soon become the most dominant pitcher in the National League, is a blazing exemplar of the printer's art. The usual surface-speck problem does not affect this enviable specimen, and its hues are intense. Centering is only slightly more generous on the right and bottom sides of the item's snow white borders, and its corners appear to be untouched. This is a very pleasing example, in Near Mint to Mint condition.
