Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among a total of more than 7,700 "Gray Back" copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just over one percent have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. An essentially untouched 1956 Topps card, like the offered example picturing Mickey Mantle, is a thrill to view. Its luscious quality of presentation affords no distraction from the manufacturer's intended ideal, and the card's dual poses of the Cooperstown-enshrined slugger project splendidly. Here, Mantle's likenesses are creditably well centered within four snow-white borders, and their radiance is exceptional. Also noteworthy is a full measure of original gloss on the cardfront – an especially valued attribute for the relatively coarse card stock employed by Topps during the '50's. The card's reverse is brightly printed and profoundly legible. This is a stunning commemoration of Mantle's memorable, Triple Crown-winning season. Superior Near Mint to Mint condition.
