A cult hero in Cleveland where he is best remembered as one of the American League’s top sluggers during his first eight seasons, young Rocky Colavito finished second in the 1956 Rookie of the Year voting knocking 21 home runs in 101 games and improved upon his performance in subsequent seasons to follow. Rocky mashed 25 home runs in 1957 and enjoyed his breakout season with 41 home runs in 1958, becoming the first Indians players to have consecutive seasons with more than 40 home runs when he hit 42 in 1959. Colavito was presented with this charming 14” trophy by The Touchdown Club Inc. of Columbus Ohio as the Outstanding Baseball Slugger of the Year for 1958 when he led the AL with a .620 slugging percentage. This sentimental and modest looking trophy depicts a golden batter following through on his swing perched on top of a trophy cup with “Rocky Colavito Cleveland Indians” engraved on a name plate inserted on the second tier of a marbled brown plastic base with “The Outstanding Baseball Slugger of the Year 1958 Presented by The Touchdown Club Inc. Columbus Ohio” engraved on a name plate on the first tier of the base. The bat has been removed from the batters hands but is taped to the base and can be re-inserted.
