Offered here is a Hillerich & Bradsby D114 Sammy Taylor model bat signed by 26 members of the 1959 Chicago Cubs. The Cubs won 74 games in 1959, finishing in fifth place in the National League despite Ernie Banks winning the second of his two consecutive National League MVP Awards. Pitching was the Cubs Achilles’ heel, as the staff compiled an unsightly 4.01 ERA in 1959. A bright spot for the Cubs in 1959 was 21-year old outfielder Billy Williams, who made his debut in August of 1959.
The Hall of Famers Rogers Hornsby, Lou Boudreau, Billy Williams, and Ernie Banks have all signed this bat. Other signatures include Sammy Taylor, Freddie Fitzsimmons, Dale Long, Al Dark, El Tappe, Cal Neeman, Lee Walls, George Myatt, John Buzhardt, Jim Marshall, Ed Donnelly, Art Ceccarelli, Earl Averill, Randy Jackson, Ben Johnson, Moe Drabowsky, George Altman, Art Schult, and several others. The signatures have been written on this bat in blue ballpoint pen. This bat comes with a LOA from JSA (Z78989).
