Apparently, no one told Vada Pinson about the “sophomore jinx,” for in 1959 the 20-year-old hit .316 for the Reds and led the NL in runs scored, doubles and plate appearances. He also was voted to both of that year’s All-Star Game in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles. He didn’t get into the first game but made a pinch-hitting appearance in the Los Angeles game. This is one of the custom All-Star bats made for Pinson in recognition of his selection for the Mid-Summer Classic. The Adirondack 194VP model bat is un-cracked and shows no evidence of game use. The model number “194VP” is stamped into the knob and the barrel carries the custom “1959 ALL-STAR” stamping. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13284) and the Pinson family.
