Presented here is a New York Yankees road jersey worn by infielder Joe DeMaestri during the 1960 season. This flannel button-down gray jersey was manufactured by Wilson and is a size 44. “NEW YORK” is sewn on across the chest with a professionally restored navy felt. The back has the original number “20” sewn on in navy felt and the inside collar has the gray flannel team tag with “DeMaestri ‘60” embroidered in red. There is a great deal of puckering beneath the “20” on the back which was typical of repeated hot water washing. The Wilson size 44 tag is sewn on the front left tail. This jersey displays solid game use with “COLUMBUS” being visible under a light table. The Yankees did not have a minor league affiliate in Columbus in 1960, however there is no ghost signs of an earlier “NEW YORK” crest on the front and the current wordmark on this jersey appears to match the Yankees’ uniforms of 1960 in the formations, placement and size of the letters. The restoration of the “NEW YORK” was meticulous enough to perfectly cover all traces of the original team crest. This jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert William Henderson (21-0927J03).
