His on field feats are legendary, and over his 18-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he was a 15-time All-Star (tough to accomplish with Mays and Aaron locks every year), 12-time Gold Glove Award winner (just try and run on his throwing arm!), 1966 National League MVP (what were they waiting for?), four-time batting champion and a Hall of Famer. Clemente was so revered that when he perished in the plane crash before the 1973 season, the Hall of Fame waived their 5-year rule and immediately enshrined Roberto. This off-white MacGregor “Official 97 C League” ball is signed “Roberto Clemente” on the sweet spot in blue ink with a “Carinosamente” salutation – meaning “with Affectionate Greetings.” The signature is in blue ink, boldly scripted across the sweet spot, somewhat rare for a Clemente single as he preferred the larger side panels. On the south panel there is a small scrape, and what appears to have been another signature, which has been partially removed. Despite this, the ball still displays as a Clemente single, and one of the finest we have offered. This baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AA04735).
