When Roger Maris strode to the plate in the top of the 9th inning of Game 3 of the 1961 World Series, the man who broke Babe Ruth’s single season home run record a week earlier had not even had a hit yet – let alone a home run. But Maris calmly stroked a Bob Purkey slider into the right field bleachers, winning Game 3 for the Bombers. This vintage 8” x 10” photo captures the moment after Maris' impact, with the ball in flight off the bat. Maris’ swing is virtually perfect. Verso contains original baseball article, a tag with handwritten “Maris homer” dated Oct. 8, 1961 with “World Series 1961” in red pencil. Cleveland Plain dealer date stamp from Dec. 19, 1961 also evident. Great World Series game winning HR image of the new single season home run champ.
