Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Certificate of Educational Development in 1962, his first year at Power Memorial Academy. Abdul-Jabbar always placed as much focus on education as basketball, interning at a Harlem-based African-American newspaper in high school and earning a degree in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. This certificate is printed with “Certificate of Educational Development / Awarded to / Ferdinand Alcindor / In recognition of outstanding performance on the Spring, 1962, / National Educational Development Tests. / This award reflects credit both to the student and to the school”. “Ferdinand Alcindor” is handwritten in blue pen. This certificate was awarded to Abdul-Jabbar on June 5th, 1962. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
