Presented here is a signed and typed letter to former Secretary of the Treasury John Snyder from the 33rd President of the United States, Harry S. Truman. The 7 ¼ x 10 ½ -inch paper typed letter features “HARRY S. TRUMAN INDEPENDENCE MISSOURI” in black embossed letterhead and is dated August 7, 1962. The letter sent to Snyder, whom he befriended while serving in the artillery brigade in World War I and later appointed to Secretary of the Treasury,  asks Snyder about an upcoming anniversary and veterans’ reunion of the artillery regiments they commanded in France during WWI and how Truman is always “…imposing on you some sort of an arrangement which causes a lot of work for you…” asking for information about the gathering and a list of attendees, which they both commanded,”…would be a most interesting performance.” Truman goes on to thank Snyder for the generous donation of a coin collection of the Presidents and how it is the biggest attraction in his Presidential library. Truman ended the letter with, “Sincerely yours” and signed “Harry” in cursive with a black steel-tip fountain pen. There are light paper folds and a paper clip rust impression and the document contains no evidence of edging or cornering. The typed and signed letter by Harry Truman comes with an LOA from University Archives and an LOA from JSA (BB68316).
