While the ultimate goal for Major League Baseball players is to get to and win the World Series, the Major League umpire also desires to ply his profession during the Fall Classic. The umpires in Game 1 of the 1963 World Series signed this game used ball from that game, a 5-2 Los Angeles Dodgers victory over the New York Yankees. Sandy Koufax spun a complete game six-hitter, striking out a then World Series record 15 Yankee hitters. This OAL Cronin ball has been signed by Joe Paparella ("8") on the sweet spot (HP ump), John Rice ("6"), Larry Napp ("7"), Tony Venzon ("7"), on the label, Tom Gorman ("7") and Shag Crawford ("4"). All signatures have been penned in black ink, except for Crawford who penned his signature in red ink. The ball shows nice evidence of game use with light stains and scuffs with fully legible stampings. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication, cert number B23426.
