Besides being the backstop on 10 World Championship clubs, Yogi Berra was renowned for his fair play, his good nature and generosity. It’s one thing to be a star ballplayer, but quite another to be respected for qualities demonstrated off the ball field, and in 1964 the Columbus Alliance wanted to recognize Berra for these attributes.
This presented sterling silver plated bowl measures 9 inches in diameter and is 5 inches tall. “Columbus Alliance Sportsmanship Award Presented to Lawrence “Yogi” Berra Manager, New York Yankees Baseball Club June 18, 1964 Bronx, N.Y.” is engraved on the front of the piece. The bowl shows good wear from age and use with shallow scuffing on the surface, but this does not affect the legibility of the inscription. The bowl comes with a full LOA from Steiner for its Yogi Berra Estate provenance.
