Best known for being the five-time manager of the New York Yankees and his continuous battles with owner George Steinbrenner, Billy Martin’s fiery persona and baseball acumen were key elements in his reputation for turning losing teams into winning teams. Martin led the Yankees to back-to-back American League pennants in 1976 and 1977 and won the World Series in 1977 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Martin had a solid playing career as well, where had a batting average of .257 with seven different organizations – the Yankees, Kansas City Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Braves and Minnesota Twins. Martin was an All-Star in 1956 as was on five World Series winning teams with the Yankees. After retiring from baseball with the Twins in 1961, Martin honed his managerial skills with the Twins organization, serving as coach from 1965-1968 and getting his first manager’s job in 1969 with Minnesota.

Offered is this size 40 Wilson button-down flannel white with navy pinstriped Minnesota Twins home jersey worn by Martin during the 1967 season, while serving as one of the coaches. This jersey has “Twins” sewn on in cursive script in navy blue and red tackle twill angled across the chest with a paraph. The Wilson size tag is sewn on the bottom front tail and below that tag is embroidered in navy blue on an off-white patch “67 Set 2”. The short sleeves have air holes in the armpits and the left sleeve has the Twins logo patch. The back of the jersey has Martin’s number “1” sewn on in blue and red tackle twill. On the inside back collar “Martin” is sewn on a small matching off-white patch. The jersey displays moderate use and there are some stains present throughout. This jersey comes with an LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
