Presented is a Pete Maravich signature and inscription on the front cover of the March 4, 1968 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Maravich has signed his name “Pistol Pete” in blue marker on the front cover, and inscribed “John 14:6” below his signature. The front cover features five color photos of Maravich in action in a purple Louisiana State basketball uniform, under the headline “LSU’S Pistol Pete – The Hottest Shot”. The cover has small tears in the upper left and lower left corners, and a 1 x 2¾ -inch white paper with black type subscription mail sticker on the left margin. The back cover has a small tear in the lower right corner. Maravich was one of college basketball’s biggest stars in the late 1960s, and played for his father, Press Maravich, for three seasons at LSU, and is the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer with 3,667 points scored and an average of 44.2 points per game. He played for three NBA teams until injuries forced his retirement in 1980 following a 10-year career. One of the youngest players ever inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Maravich was cited by the Hall as "perhaps the greatest creative offensive talent in history". This item comes with a LOA from JSA.
