Coached by the legendary Hank Stram, and led by Hall-of-Fame quarterback Len Dawson, the Kansas City Chiefs finished the 1969 American Football League regular season with a record of 11-3. Kansas City’s success was a total team effort as the Chiefs finished second in the league in scoring while ranking first in the AFL in points allowed. Three different running backs (Mike Garrett, Robert Holmes, Warren McVea) each rushed for at least 500 yards on the season. In the playoffs, the Chiefs defeated the New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders to win the championship. This set up a meeting with Bud Grant’s Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV, played January 11, 1970, a contest won by the Chiefs, 23-7. That year, the AFL was absorbed into the NFL.

These cufflinks and tie tack are modeled after the player rings given out to the players for winning Super Bowl IV and given to coach Hank Stram. They feature a large round cz stone set in the center of a football shape. A larger red stone serves as the backdrop. “KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 1969 WORLD CHAMPIONS” appears around the stone’s bezel setting in raised relief. These cufflinks and tie tacks are original from 1969 and with a very limited number of rings that were given out, this set was for the people that did not get a ring. These cufflinks and tie tack are 10 karat gold with each having “©JOSTENS10K” engraved and come with a congratulatory card from the president of the Kansas City Chiefs Booster Club, Ray Evans. Evans was a local banker that helped bring the team originally to Kansas City from Dallas. The card reads “PRESENTED BY The Chiefs Club (Booster Organization) with our thanks and appreciation for the prestige and honor you have brought to Kansas City in winning the World Championship of Professional Football and for the example you have set in accepting the Mantle of World Champion with Class and Style. RAY EVANS, President”. They're never has been a set of cufflinks like this ever offered in such pristine condition, let alone in the original red velvet display case that accompanies these items.
