Presented is a ticket stub from Super Bowl III, held Sunday, January 12, 1969 at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. The 2 ½ x 5 inch white cardstock ticket stub has a light blue tone over an illustration of multiple game officials and an image of the Super Bowl trophy flanked by orange, white and blue logos for the AFL and the NFL. The legend, in reversed-out white letters “Third World Championship Game,” is in the center of the ticket; the back of the ticket has a diagram of the Orange Bowl in black on white. Super Bowl III was the third AFL-NFL Championship Game, and the first to officially bear the name “Super Bowl” It’s considered one of the greatest upsets in American sports history, as the heavy underdog New York Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts, 16-7.
