Offered here is a 1970-71 Roberto Clemente salesman sample Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey. The Pirates were the first MLB team to switch from flannel to double-knit jerseys, and this jersey was likely manufactured by Rawlings to serve as an example of the new double-knit style for Pirates brass. The jersey is very similar to the Pirates actual home jerseys of the era, with the exception of the black-white-gold sleeve stripe, which was reversed for the Pirates actual game jerseys.
This white double-knit pullover jersey has “PIRATES” and Roberto Clemente’s number “21” sewn on the chest in black and gold tackle twill. A second “21” is sewn on the back of the jersey in black and gold tackle twill. The collar features a gold and black band. A Rawlings size “42” tag is sewn on the inside back tail next to a washing instruction tag. This pullover salesman sample jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
