Hall of Fame pitcher Phil Niekro spent the majority of his 24-year career with the Braves’ organization, both in Milwaukee and Atlanta. The knuckleballer pitched until he was 48-years-old. During the 1973 season in Atlanta, Niekro was 13-10 with a 3.31 ERA and nine complete games.

Niekro wore his blue Atlanta Braves road pullover jersey with now cream-colored sleeves during the 1973 season. This size 42 Sand-Knit jersey has “Braves” sewn on across the chest in cursive script in white and red tackle twill with white border stitching. Niekro’s number “35” is sewn on the center left chest in the same color and material pattern.  The Sand-Knit tag and the team strip tag are sewn on the inside collar. The team strip tag reads “42-73-Set 2”. The white sleeves have a red piping stripe an inch off the end and have a blue and read feather logo sewn on in tackle twill. The back of the jersey has Niekro’s number “35” sewn on in white and red tackle twill with white border stitching. This jersey displays heavy game use. Sand-Knit 1972 and 1973 Braves’ game jerseys were made with a low-quality grade of knit fabric and extra wear on this jersey was likely from minor league use when teams of that era commonly recycled jerseys. There are small spots on the numbers and team name and the numbering, lettering and feather logos have varying degrees of fading. This jersey comes with a LOA form noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
