Although finishing with only 82 victories during the 1973 regular season, the New York Mets won the NL East, just ahead of the second-place St. Louis Cardinals, who finished 81-81. Tom Seaver was his normal dominating self, posting a 19-10 record with a 2.08 ERA and 251 strikeouts. George Stone went 12-3 with a 2.80 ERA. Rusty Staub batted .279 while leading the team in walks and runs batted in. Despite being heavy underdogs, the Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds (who had won 99 games during the season) to win the NLCS. New York eventually fell just short of another upset, falling to the Oakland Athletics in a seven-game World Series.

This offered Balfour 10K gold 1973 New York Mets National League championship ring was presented to Nelson Burbrink, who was a longtime scout for the Cardinals, Mets and Brewers and served as a director of player development for the Mets. This ring featuring an image of a baseball on the center of the face – filled with multiple diamonds – set on a large dark stone. “1973 N.L. CHAMPIONS N.Y. METS” reads around the bezel setting in relief work. One side of the ring displays an image of Shea Stadium, complete with the scoreboard proclaiming the Mets rally cry of “YOU GOTTA BELIEVE”. Also appearing are the game scores of the NLCS as well as the image of a Mets hat. The opposite side is centered by a Mets logo, with the name “BURBRINK” above and “DPD” below. A facsimile signature of “Nelson Burbrink” appears inside the band along with a “BALFOUR 10K” mark. This ring is an approximate size 12 and weighs approximately 25.3 grams. This ring comes from the personal collection of former New York Mets’ scout and former Major Leaguer Nelson Burbrink and a LOA from the Burbrink Family will accompany this ring.
