Hall of Famer Frank Robinson’s 21-year playing career came to a close in 1976 as a member of the Cleveland Indians. Prior to the start of the 1975 season, Robinson became the first African-American manager when he was named player/manager for the Tribe. When it was all said and done, Robinson finished with 586 home runs, 1812 RBI and a .294 batting average. The 1956 Rookie of the Year still remains the only player to win the MVP award in both the American and National Leagues.
Offered here is this Hillerich & Bradsby R161 model bat that was used by Frank Robinson during his final 1976 season. This bat displays excellent use and is un-cracked. The barrel has a special Bi-Centennial Liberty Bell stamping on the barrel and the barrel also features several ball marks and red bat rack streaks. There is a light coating of pine tar on the mid-handle and Robinson’s number “20” is hand written in black marker on the knob. Robinson signed his name in blue marker on the barrel to the right of his signature and Louisville Slugger branding. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15431) and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9. There is also a LOA from JSA for his signature. Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium. Goldin Auctions will be donating 10% of the winning bid price to The Jackie Robinson Foundation.
