"Pistol Pete" Maravich has placed a blue ballpoint signature and inscription on the obverse of each of these two otherwise unmarked gum cards. The pride of Louisiana State University, Pete Maravich posted record numbers (3,667 career points, 44.2 points per game), that even the likes of Bob Pettit and Shaquille O'Neal didn’t eclipse at that institution. A tragic hero of sorts, though, Maravich long carried the stigma of never playing for a winner at the professional level, and injuries forced him to retire in 1980. The pair of large-sized, signed gum cards includes: 1976 Topps #60 Pete Maravich (Cert. #25502654) - signed and inscribed at bottom right corner, "'Pistol Pete' - Matt. 11:28, 29, 30"; 1976 Topps #130 Pete Maravich AS (Cert. #25502656) - signed " 'Pistol Pete'" on right leg, inscribed "Matt. 16:26" on left arm. Maravich, inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987, was suddenly felled by a heart attack less than a year later at the age of 40.
