After "Star Wars: Episode IV-A New Hope" premiered on May 25, 1977, to critical and box office acclaim, children everywhere wanted to visit a galaxy far, far way by playing with toys from the exciting space opera. Unfortunately, Kenner Toys was unable to produce toys quick enough to meet the demands of a hungry public eager to get their hands on the action figures. The first Star Wars action figures hit retail stores in 1978 and were quickly snatched up, with Kenner selling 40 million units, bringing $100 million in revenue. Kenner's Star Wars toy line would produce 300 million action figures and vehicles for the hit science-fiction franchise between 1978 to 1985.

Presented here is an original Star Wars 12 Back-A C3PO from 1978 graded EX+70 by the Action Figure Authority. The 12-back figures were the first Star Wars toys released to the public in 1978 and are named after the number of available figures featured on the back of the card. The 6 x 9-inch card features "STAR WARS" across the top in silver and features Luke Skywalker's image holding a lightsaber standing behind Princess Leia, taken right from the movie poster. "Ages 4 and up" is located on the top right portion of the card. An image of C3PO from the film is located on the front of the carded action figure. "See-Threepio (C-3PO)" is spelled out phonetically on the midsection of the card. "Kenner" is located on the right corner of the carded figure. C-3PO rests inside a plastic bubble attached to the card. The reverse side of the card I labeled "STAR WARS" at the top and features the original 12 action figures available to the public in 1978, as well as the Tie Fighter, X-Wing, and Land Speeder vehicles. An illustration on how to work the telescoping lightsabers featured on Luke, Obi-Wan, and Darth Vader's action figures is located next to the image of all 12 figures. A circular Kenner "Proof of Purchase" logo is located on the bottom right corner of the card featuring mail-in instructions on how to redeem the proof of purchase for the Collector's Action Stand. The front of the card features light creasing on the top, and the card has been punched. The Star Wars C-3PO 12 Back-A action figure comes encapsulated and authenticated by Action Figure Authority (11824791) and is graded EX+70.
