When the Yankees were struggling down the pennant stretch in 1980, they looked to their old nemesis, Gaylord Perry, for pitching help. For years the Yankees bats were all but hopeless against Perry, and New York’s frustration led to the team accusing the pitcher of doctoring the ball on numerous occasions.

All was forgiven once he donned the pinstripes and the veteran helped the Yankees win 103 games to take the American League East. Though the Hall of Famer played but one season with the Yankees, it was notable for a few reasons. The first is his improbably unique stat line of 4 wins, 4 losses and a 4.44 ERA! The other thing that made his brief pinstripe stint unique is that he wore this Mizuno red glove - according to Perry the first colored leather glove in the Majors.

This Mizuno professional model glove shows great use. The lace at the tip of the index and middle fingers have broken but the other laces are intact. The tips and pocket show just the amount of wear you’d expect from a 511 game Hall of Famer. The leather body and laces show scuffing throughout and the special red staining has worn away in parts. The Mizuno label is present on the wrist strap. The edge trim on the wrist strap is frayed and worn and the fleece lining shows perspiration staining and is worn away in parts. “Gaylord Perry” is embroidered on the outside of the thumb and the Hall of Famer has signed nearby in black marker adding “1980 NYY” and HOF ’90”. This glove comes with a signed letter of authenticity from Gaylord Perry and COA from PSA/DNA (AB69838).
