Marvelous Marvin Hagler was the undisputed middleweight champion of the world for the majority of the 1980s, building a reputation as one of the most fearsome fighters of the modern era. He finished his career with a staggering 62 victories against only three losses, with his final loss coming against Sugar Ray Leonard in a 12 round split decision. Hagler was named the boxer of the decade by numerous publications after successfully defending his middleweight titles an outstanding 12 times. His legacy is unimpeachable, although some would say marvelous, as noted by his induction into both the International and World Boxing Halls of Fame.
This form is the application for a renewal of a boxing license in the state of Nevada, the fighting capital of the world. Hagler filled this out in black fine-tipped marker, listing his height as 5’ 91/2”, and is weight as a svelte 160 pounds. He dated this form to May 15th, 1980, two days before he was slated to fight Marcos Geraldo. Hagler would dominate this fight, held at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, emerging with a 10 round decision victory. He signed the bottom of this black, fine tipped marker as “Marvelous Marvin Hagler”.
