The 1980 Philadelphia Phillies vanquished not just the Kansas City Royals in the World Series, but also nearly a century of futility, winning their first World Series since the club's inception in 1883 as the Philadelphia Quakers. Led on the mound by Hall of Fame lefthander Steve Carlton and at the plate by Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt, the team rallied around Pete Rose. Manager Dallas Green extracted the most from each player, and with Schmidt having his first of two consecutive MVP seasons (that sandwiched the '80 World Series MVP), the Phillies sent the Astros packing in a thrilling five-game NLCS before putting down the Royals. The barrel of this pristine, 34-inch, Model 180 "Louisville Slugger" has been engraved with "GENUINE/PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES/1980 WORLD CHAMPIONS." Surrounding the barrel's header, 34 members of the World Series Champs have signed in vivid blue Sharpie, all grade 10. Signatures include Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Tug McGraw, the late John Vukovich, Larry Bowa, Manny Trillo, Larry Christenson, Ruben Amaro, Bob Boone, Greg Luzinski, Warren Brusstar, Keith Moreland, Bobby Wine, Marty Bystrom, Dick Ruthven, Randy Lerch, Bake McBride, Herm Starrette, Lee Elia, Greg Gross, Bob Walk, Garry Maddox, Del Unser, Ron Reed, Ramon Aviles, Dallas Green, Mike Ryan, Lonnie Smith, and Dickie Noles. A COA from PSA/DNA (#T06692) accompanies this item.
