The 1980 Philadelphia Phillies were nicknamed “The Cardiac Kids,” a play on their nickname “The Whiz Kids” and a homage to how many close games the team won during the 1980 season. The Phillies boasted a roster loaded with talent, including future Hall of Famers Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, and Steve Carlton; the Phillies finished with a record of 91-71, beating the Montreal Expos by one game for the National League East title. The Phillies defeated the Astros in the National League Championship Series to gain their first National League pennant since 1950. The Phillies would go on to face the Kansas City Royals in the World Series, a first in World Series history where neither team had won the championship previously. The Phillies dispatched the Royals in six games, with Game 6 being the most-watched World Series game in MLB history. The win was the first World Series victory for the Phillies, with the team being the last of the original 16 MLB teams to win the title.

Presented here is a 35 ½ -inch red wooden Louisville Slugger Philadelphia Phillies World Series Champions trophy bat. The vibrantly painted bat features “Louisville Slugger 125 HILLERICH & BRADSBY Co MADE IN U.S.A. Louisville, KY” stamped in gold on the barrel of the bat. “Powerized” appears stamped in gold on the barrel. The top portion on the barrel of the bat is labeled “PHILLIES” in gold, with “WORLD CHAMPIONS 1980” in gold below. The facsimile signatures from the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies team members appear in gold on the bat's barrel. The trophy bat is in excellent condition and honors a Phillies team's legacy that brought a World Series title to a championship-starved Phillies fanbase.
