Offered is this purple mesh Los Angeles Lakers road jersey worn by former small and power forward Jamal Wilkes during the period of 1981-1985. Wilkes was a member of three Lakers’ title teams in 1980, 1982 and 1985 and averaged 18.4 points per game in his eight seasons with the team. This un-sized jersey has “LAKERS” sewn on the upper chest in yellow and white tackle twill with Wilkes’ number “52” sewn on below in white and yellow shadow tackle twill. The neck and sleeve openings have white/yellow/white band. The back of the jersey has “WILKES” sewn on in yellow and white tackle twill with his number “52” sewn on in white and yellow tackle twill. The jersey was manufactured by Tiernan of Glendale, California. Tiernan was the official jersey supplier for the Lakers from 1975-1985 and from 1980-85 Lakers’ jerseys during that time period did not have year tags, and the style of the tag on this jersey further dates this jersey to those years. Tiernan used two styles of tagging during this era. The printed version is seen from 1975 to 1985 and during the approximate years of 1982-85, the Lakers also used an embroidered tag, which is on the center tail of this jersey. Both style tags were used through 1985. Wilkes has added his signature in black marker on the base of the “2” on the back of the jersey. This jersey comes with a LOA from MEARS for the game use and has been given the highest possible grade of A10, plus a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature. Please note that this item was recently authenticated by Beckett Authentication. An LOA will be pictured in this lot when it is received in our office and will be shipped to the winner.
