The 1981 season will be remembered for the players’ strike that saw the cancellation of 713 games of the regular season. Pete Rose was making his way up the hit list and next on his target was Hall of Famer Stan Musial. After an agreement was reached between the players union and ownership on July 31st, the first game back was the All-Star Game in Montreal on August 9th. One day later Pete Rose and the Philadelphia Phillies took on the St. Louis Cardinals – Musial’s former team, at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. Rose, who came into the game tied with Musial, led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single to left field of Cardinals’ pitcher Mark Littell to pass Stan the Man. The Cardinals wound up winning the game 7-3, but Rose made history that night. This full ticket is from that historic game. This 1 ½ x 5 ½ inch ticket is white and blue and has the “Phillies” printed in red. The “TERRACE BOX” ticket face value is $6.00 and has three holes punched. This item has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA (23808528) and been given a grade of AUTHENTIC.
