Presented here is a check signed by Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway. A nine-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super bowl Champion, Elway was an absolute powerhouse on the gridiron. However, Elway almost pursued a career in professional baseball instead of football. He was selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 1981 MLB draft. Though short lived, many thought that Elway’s sheer skill and athleticism could have made him a powerful threat, as Yankees owner George Steinbrenner hoped to start Elway as a right fielder by 1985.

Elway played for the Oneonta Yankees of the New York – Penn League in 1982, earning a salary of $150,000. This check features the official Oneonta Yankees seal at the top. Elway endorsed the back of the check, signing his name in black pen. This check, which was for the value of $5.00, was dated “7/7/1982”. This check has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (83959432).
