Presented is a 9 x 10 inch wood plaque presented to Major League Baseball righthanded relief pitcher Lee Smith as “1983 Chicago Cubs Pitcher of the Year.” The plaque is carded brown wood in the shape of the State of Wisconsin, and bears an affixed gold metal plaque with the legend, in black “Lee Smith 1983 Chicago Cubs Pitcher of the Year Congratulations from the American Dairy Association of Wisconsin and all Wisconsin Dairy Farmers,” with the “ADA” logo at the bottom. Smith was in his third season with the Cubs in 1983, and his second full year as a member of the North Side’s bullpen, posting his career-best 1.65 ERA while leading the National League with 29 saves and 56 games finished. Smith played 18 seasons in the Majors, and was considered one of the dominant closers in baseball history, holding the MLB record for career saves (478) from 1993 until 2006. This item is accompanied by a LOA from Smith.
