Coached by then Kansas State head coach Jack Hartman, the United States fielded another strong collegiate team for international competition. The 1983 Pan American Games saw Team USA go undefeated (8-0), capturing the gold medal. The roster included Hall of Famer and legend Michael Jordan, Mark Price, Wayman Tisdale, Chris Mullin and Sam Perkins. Jordan led all USA scorers, averaging 17.3 points per game as the US had to overcome a foot injury to Mullin, who did not play a game.
Offered here is an extremely rare Team USA Michael Jordan issued jersey. This was Jordan’s first international tournament and this white jersey was issue to Jordan for the 1983 Pan Am games. Manufactured by Descente, this white jersey has Jordan’s number “5” screen-printed on the front and back in red with navy borders. “USA” is arched across the front above the number in red and navy screen-print. The Descente logo is screen-printed in navy on the upper right chest. The back of this jersey has “JORDAN” screen-printed in red and navy and the sides have a thick navy stripe bordered in red on both sides. The V-neck collar and open arms have navy and red striping. This is the only time Jordan did not wear number “9” in international competition. The jersey is in great condition.
