Presented here is a game-used 1983 San Diego Padres home jersey and cap worn by relief pitcher Sid Monge. Monge, an American League All-Star in 1979, was traded to the Padres midseason from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Joe Lefebvre.

     This jersey is a white, v-neck pullover jersey with “Padres” sewn across the front in orange, yellow, and brown tackle twill. “42” is sewn across the back in orange, yellow, and brown tackle twill. “MONGE” is sewn across the shoulders in brown tackle twill. The sleeves and collar feature a brown, orange, and yellow striped design. A Wilson size “42” tag is sewn on the inside back collar, while a “53 83” tag is sewn on the front left area of the jersey. Monge signed the “2” digit on the back in black marker, adding the inscription “Game Used – 1983”. This jersey shows moderate signs of game use. The hat is brown with a yellow front panel and orange button. An orange and brown interlocking “SD” logo graces the front of the cap. On the inside is written “7 1/8”and “42” in black marker. Monge signed the brim of this New Era cap in silver marker, adding the inscription “Game Used 1983”.This cap shows moderate signs of game use.

     The final item in this lot is a baseball used on July 11th, 1983, in a game against the Chicago Cubs. Monge earned his fourth save of the season in this 6-5 San Diego victory, pitching a perfect ninth inning to preserve the victory. Monge forced Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg into a groundout to end the game and push the Padres’ record to 43-40. Monge signed the sweet spot of this Official National League Charles S. Feeney baseball in blue pen. He added the inscription “Game Used 7-10-83” on the panel to the south of the sweet spot in blue pen. Please note that the LOA confirms this ball was in fact used on the 11th, the date on which Monge recorded his 53rd career save. These items come with a LOA from Sid Monge.
