Despite leading the Washington Huskies to an upset victory over Michigan in the 1978 Rose Bowl, capping off a solid senior season, Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon went undrafted in the NFL. However, the NFL’s loss was the Canadian Football League’s gain as he signed with the Edmonton Eskimos and promptly led them to five straight Grey Cup titles. Following the 1983 season, Moon decided to enter the NFL and the Houston Oilers won the bidding war to obtain his services.

Moon paid immediate dividends for the Oilers as he set the franchise record for passing yards in his rookie season with 3,338. Offered is the very road jersey worn by Moon during his rookie season of 1984. This jersey has been photo matched to the December 9th game at the Los Angeles Rams where he went 19/29 for 200 yards during Oilers 27-16 defeat. This size 44 Russell Athletic white mesh jersey features Moon’s number “1” screen-printed in light blue and red on the front, back and sleeves. The back of the jersey has “MOON” sewn on in light blue tackle twill on a matching white mesh nameplate above his number. The sleeves have red and light blue stripes screen printed and a circular patch with “ORIGINAL AMERICAN LEAGUE FOOTBALL TEAM SILVER ANNIVERSARY 1960-1984” with the Oilers helmet logo is sewn on the left shoulder. The Russell Athletic tag is sewn on the inside back collar and the jersey displays moderate use with some team repairs on the back. This comes with a signed LOA from former Houston Oilers Equipment Manager Gordon “Red” Batty authenticating this jersey’s use by Moon during the 1984 season. The jersey shows tremendous long-season use with scratches and stains, also showing team repairs with no alterations. This is a truly remarkable jersey by this Hall of Fame quarterback. This jersey has also been photo matched by Real Game Used (248362) to the December 9th game at Los Angeles.

Also included in this lot are two signed magazine covers with Moon shown in game action wearing the same style jersey. The first publication Moon signed in blue marker and inscribed “1” on “GAMEDAY” which was an official publication of the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals vs. the Houston Oilers at Riverfront Stadium on December 1, 1985. This item comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (J87394). The second publication is Athlon’s Pro Football magazine cover from 1986 that Moon signed in black marker and inscribed “1”. This item comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (F87888).
