The 1984 book “Baseball” is a great history of the game played from the 1960s through the 1970s. It contains over 130 pictures by famed photographer Walter Iooss, Jr. with text by Roger Angell. Many of the photos have been signed by the respective player or coach, with each blank head page at the front and back of the book which contains the bulk of the signatures. Most signatures are boldly signed in blue sharpie, with a few signatures in blue ink. There are over 80 Hall of Famers included with multiple signatures of quite a few. Includes: Mickey Mantle (2), Sandy Koufax (3), Willie Mays (3), Reggie Jackson (4), George Kell, Orlando Cepeda, Willie Stargell, Luis Aparicio, Harmon Killebrew, Don Drysdale, Carl Yastrzemski (2), Juan Marichal, Joe Sewell, Gary Carter, Judy Johnson, Jim “Catfish” Hunter, Mike Schmidt, Bob Gibson, Bob Feller, Dave Winfield, Ernie Banks, Bob Doerr, Early Wynn, Robin Roberts, Enos Slaughter, Phil Niekro, Ray Dandridge, Gaylord Perry, Buck Leonard, Joe Torre, Rod Carew, Hoyt Wilhelm, Bob Lemon, Jim Palmer, Ted Williams, Luke Appling, Billy Herman, Joe DiMaggio, Frank Robinson (4), Lefty Gomez, Johnny Bench (3), Whitey Ford, Rollie Fingers, Yogi Berra (2), Johnny Mize, Al Kaline, Pete Rose (2), Lou Boudreau, Hank Aaron, Billy Williams, Bill Dickey, Brooks Robinson, Tom Seaver, Rick Ferrell, Willie McCovey, Pee Wee Reese, Al Barlick, Duke Snider, Nolan Ryan, Jocko Conlan, Lou Brock, Steve Carlton, Monte Irvin, Tony Perez, Don Sutton, Red Schoendienst (2), Joe Morgan (2), Ferguson Jenkins, Hal Newhouser, Larry Doby, Phil Rizzuto, Sparky Anderson, Goose Gossage, Ozzie Smith, Earl Weaver, Jim Rice and Carlton Fisk. There are plenty others included, most stars of the 60s and 70s, with many World Series heroes. This book was a multi-year (multi-decade?) project, obtaining the signatures of the greatest ballplayers of their time….and of baseball history. The individual work put into this project is worth its weight in gold. This book contains room for growth, and could be the beginning of your new project to obtain more signatures…sort of like an “extra innings” game where you are the home team. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
