Jack Brickhouse was the voice of the Chicago Cubs on WGN-TV from 1948 to 1981, while also doing play-by-play sporadically for the White Sox, Bears, and Bulls. In 1954, Brickhouse called the World Series on NBC alongside Russ Hodges. His call of Willie Mays’ legendary basket catch in Game 1 is one of the most famous baseball calls of all time. Presented here is a marble plaque from Brickhouse’s induction into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame in 1983. This marble plaque measures 10 x 17 inches and is etched with “Jack Brickhouse / Sportscaster / Honored By His Colleagues / 11 April 1983 / National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame / Salisbury North Carolina”. A portrait of Brickhouse and his signature are etched in the top of this marble plaque. This item is a tremendous memento from one of Chicago’s most beloved sports figures.
