One of baseball’s all-time elite batsmen, throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn’s name was synonymous with hitting. An eight-time National League batting champion, Gwynn’s .338 career batting-average ranks 18th on the all-time list among and 1st among modern day (post 1960s) players. Gwynn hit a lot of balls with this 1985 Rawlings 279H model bat, a model he used early in his career. This bat displays excellent game use with a crack on the handle. There are ball marks, stitch impressions and white leather scuffs present on the barrel, along with checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact. The model number “279H” has been stamped on the knob and Gwynn’s number has been handwritten in gold marker on the knob and in black marker inside the cupped top barrel. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B10855) for the game use and has been given a high grade of GU 8.
