Few pitchers had the ability to dominate a game like Roger Clemens. The hard-throwing right-hander is ninth on the all-time wins list with 354 and third in strikeouts with 4,672. Clemens broke into Major League Baseball in 1984, but didn’t really break out until the 1986 season, when he went an astounding 24-4 with a 2.48 ERA in 33 starts. Clemens toed the rubber in these black Puma cleats, which are both signed in bold, green Sharpie by the two-time World Series champion. Both cleats are inscribed differently. The right shoe features “1986” and “Cy Young/MVP” written above Clemens’ signature, while the left shoe reads “M.V.P.” and “1986” above Clemens’ signature and “Cy Young” below. Clemens’ number “21” is clearly written in silver marker on the tongue of the right cleat, while it is faded, but visible, on the left. The cleats show incredible evidence of game use, including dirt staining on the bottom of the six metal-studded shoes. The inside of the cleats are stripped and no size indication is present. The cleats come with an LOA from Mears Memorabilia Evaluation and Research Services. The signatures are verified with PSA/DNA certification numbers “G22032” and “G22033.”
