After a year of playing out of position at first base, 1986 saw Mike Schmidt back home at third base. The Phillies star responded to the familiar surroundings by having one of his greatest offensive seasons, slamming a league-leading 37 home runs and 119 runs batted in. Schmidt also led the league in slugging and took home the Silver Slugger Award, a Gold Glove Award for his fielding and was voted to the All-Star Game. By the time the season ended, Schmidt was just a few home runs shy of the 500 Home Run Club, a goal he reached during the first month of the 1987 season. Schmidt’s 1986 stats earned him his third and final NL MVP Award, something no other third baseman had done before or since.

Schmidt used this Worth WC116 model bat circa 1986. This bat displays moderate game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks and bat rack streaks present on the barrel. The handle has been taped in a spiral pattern to enhance the grip and a light coating of pine tar is also on the handle and tape. The bat’s model number “WC116” has been stamped on the knob and Schmidt’s number “20” is handwritten in black marker on the knob. Schmidt has signed his name in blue marker on the barrel. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B25714) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9. There is also a LOA from MEARS (317102) for the game use and has the highest grade of A10, plus a LOA from Beckett Authentication for Schmidt’s signature.
